Menopause…

The fastest growing section of the UK’s workforce is women over the age of 50 - so we need to get talking about menopause at work! Bupa (2021) report that huge amounts of middle aged women are leaving the workforce due to their menopause symptoms, when they’re likely to be at the top of their game.

Employers can take some simple steps to support their employees and remove the embarrassment of talking about menopause. Making small changes can have a massive impact on anyone experiencing the menopause.

  • So…talk about the menopause - make it normal to talk about this often taboo subject

  • Small adjustments to someone’s role to help with symptoms make a real difference

  • As a line manager understand what the menopause is and what the symptoms might be

  • Listen - let’s not make assumptions, everyone experiences the menopause differently

  • Don't assume that men won’t be interested

Addressing these types of topics that really touch your employees will help with things like recruitment, retention, absence and overall they create a culture that people want to be part of.
